Dr. Ju and I are collaborating again. Above, a sketch we did this morning while discussing art and philosophy over coffee. My abstract work is overlaid with two Chinese characters for "Dao". Right and left characters are the same, each represents a different style of writing.

A New Take
Above, a new take on an old image, that is, a paper collage from yesteryear is re-imagined in a new digital iteration.

New Nude
Sketch from a live nude sketching session, about a thirty minute effort. Well, I can say the model liked the sketch. I have more. The medium? Charcoal, one of my favorites.

Modified Remains
Above, the 21st century remains of a massive old growth stump in the Pacific northwest, overgrown with new growth, drawing strength from the decaying material. Image slightly modified for emotional impact.

Saints
Well, something new here, a new painting, done in acrylics, an unusual medium for me, along with a touch of chalky pastels and charcoal. This image is a record shot.
The stats, 36" square canvas, painted over the course of 8 hours in my garage. A fellow artist, Zhang Hong, called the figures "Saints", and the name has stuck as a working title. According to ZH, the saints are standing on the clouds, and have come to greet the viewer. I'm good with this interpretation.

Abstract Journey
Above, something new, a three way collaborative effort by Ju Yanan, Zhang Hong, and me. All painted in one spirited session using acrylics. The painting measures one meter square, a format I quite like. I find the results pleasing. I seem to notice something new each time I look at the painting. To be sure, this is a record shot.

Design Satisfaction
In the Japanese Garden at Bloedel Reserve, at your feet, good design. So rich, and pleasing. All the elements, variety, repetition, color, texture, the lasting, the ephemeral.
All you need to do is slow down, and observe.

Splendor of Color
Enjoy the splendor of color, form, light and shadow, rendered, in this case, from chalky pastels, one of my favorite mediums. So much joy, on so small a footprint, 6" x 6". All on black Canson paper.
