The Face of the Deep

It seems that there is so much to process these days, it behooves me to take some time to post a reaction, what with so much change afoot, the economy in flux, friends and loved ones losing jobs, and the arts under the axe. We used to enjoy attending the Connecticut Opera for an old fashioned time of rich live performance, music, and set design, all at the pace of a bygone era. Now the season has come to an abrupt end for lack of funding. Ah, the price of waging democracy in far off lands, and ignoring excesses in the financial world. Don’t take this laying down! Put flowers in your vase, and, if possible, art on your walls. Remember, and be reminded of beauty.

Something New

I had the good fortune to spend part of two consecutive days in the studio. What a rare pleasure. I am working on about five paintings at once in a variety of sizes, a variety of subjects, and in a variety of states of completion. There is a good chance that one or more will end up covered in gesso, again, only to make way for something new.

Crossroads

I find that doing art often requires, when so fortunate, an undisturbed block of time, hopefully, a span of focused effort. Not easy to find! Sometimes, I may have to drop everything mid brush stroke, and get back into the work later. At times, this can have a positive effect as well, and becomes part of the creative process.
